REGULAR CLASSES / 8 x 60 min classes on Sat and Sun
All classes during the weekend, including the extension workshops are taught in english.
Please read the description below before submitting your registration. Note that BAL-LOVE is an international festival with many top-level dancers. Even if you are advanced in your local scene, or at another festival, a lower level might be more fitting for you at this festival. There are three levels to choose from. Contact us if you have any questions.
This level is for dancers that would like to improve not just their basic technique but also to increase their vocabulary, improve their transitions, flow, musicality and to work on more complex figures and rhythmical variations. You should have taken classes for 1-2 years to be able to do this level and you are comfortable leading or following moves like progressive forwards and backwards, crab walks, scoothes/side steps, paddle turns, come arounds, out and ins, multiple turns and different kind of throw outs. There will be no audition for this level.
Advanced (2 groups)
This level is for dancers that already know everything mentioned in the lower level descriptions. You have been dancing for at least three years and are a key person in your local scene and may even teach. You go regularly to international festivals, and have developed your own distinct style as a dancer. You quickly learn new moves and footwork and can make up your own variations. Musicality, partnership and creativity are familiar concepts. You need to attend the audition on Saturday morning to do this level. In the audition we may choose some of you for the ADV+ level and some to INT-I/A level. The rest of the group will be divided into two equal groups (ADV1, ADV2).
The ADV+ classes are for the most talented and experienced dancers at the event. You can only attend this level if you have registered for classes (ADVANCED level) and if you are invited by the organizers. The selection will be done before the event, but we may invite more dancers after the audition on Saturday morning.
EXTENSION CLASSES / 3 x 60 min class on Friday
1/ "Slow Bal" / INTERMEDIATE
This level is for dancers that dance fast Balboa on Intermediate level and up. You have a limited experience of Slow Balboa, including one or two taster classes. We will focus on fundamentals of the dance, but also work on footwork variations and figures.
2/ "Slow Bal" / ADVANCED
This level is for dancers that dance fast Balboa on an advanced level and up. You have experience of Slow Balboa and never miss the opportunity to dance when a slow song comes up. We will focus on getting deeper into the fundamentals, but also work on rhythm changes, footwork and more advanced figures.
TASTER CLASSES at the PARTIES
FRIDAY / "Pure Fun"
by Carissa & Tor (USA)
Elevate your pure balboa with out of the box twists on classic moves. We’ll play with our postures and how we connect with our partner to draw out Tango inspired moves. We’ll work on how we connect with the ground for fun, momentum based crosses — all while still leading and following in pure bal!
SATURDAY / "Fun in the Sun"
by Hannah & Jonathan (USA)
Slips, Slides and Swivels, inspired by the Venice Beach Clip.
Come and join Hannah and Jonathan for their class dedicated to the dancers from the past. Beach clip is one of the few original videos we have nowadays and there is so much inspiration there!
SUNDAY / "BalFun"
by Maria & Luis (SP)
Break it, twist it, turn it and slide it. Let´s take it out of the box and make something new with what you already know. A class that focuses on that thing that is unexpected, but that creates something unique with your partner. We will play with some basic moves adding "secret spices" to them to make them your own.
