Register for all competitions online, pay, and pick up your number at the festival. Please register for the competitions only when you have your week or weekend registration/application confirmed.
Unless you compete in different roles, you are only allowed to enter one of the Bal-Swing Mix & Match competitions (the Friday night Pure Balboa competition is an exception).
If you made the finals in the Bal-Love Challenge, you cannot enter any of the Mix & Match finals (the Friday night Pure Balboa competition is an exception) even if you were chosen as a finalist in the prelims. If you make the finals in the Bal-Love Challenge, you will get a refund for the entry fee to the Mix & Match. A lot of talented dancers join Bal-love and we want to see as many dancers as possible in the finals.
Bal-Love Challenge
This will be a social competition open to all dancers, and we expect the most advanced dancers of the festival to attend. You register as a couple to enter the preliminaries. The judges will choose a small selection of dancers to dance in the final. Any Balboa, Bal-swing, and dancing relating to these styles are allowed. Short choreographed sequences and air-steps are allowed, but judges will only be impressed if these are done with rhythm and flow. You will be judged on technique, musicality, and partnership within the couple. The format of the finals will be spotlights.

Balboa Mix & Match - Open division
This is a social mix and match competition for all dancers. Leaders and Followers sign up individually. Partners are chosen at random. You will dance with more than one partner and to different tempos. The judges will choose individuals to dance in the final. Any Balboa and/or Bal-swing are allowed. You will be judged on technique, flow, musicality, and partnership. Judges will especially look for your ability to make your partner shine while still keeping your integrity as a dancer. In the finals, you will be judged as individuals. Note this is a division meant for the most experienced dancers at the festival. Dancers that enter this level are likely taking classes in the adv+/master class tracks at the festival and have many years of experience competing.

Balboa Mix & Match - Rising Star division
This is a social mix and match competition for dancers who never made the finals in an open division mix and match or that are attending the intermediate-advanced or advanced class tracks at the festival. Leaders and Followers sign up individually. Partners are chosen at random. You will dance with more than one partner and to different tempos. The judges will choose individuals to dance in the final. Any Balboa and/or Bal-swing are allowed. You will be judged on technique, flow, musicality, and partnership. Judges will especially look for your ability to make your partner shine while still keeping your integrity as a dancer. In the finals, you will be judged as individuals.

Fast and Slow - Pure Balboa Competition
This is a social mix and match, tap in competition. No entry fee, just show up on Friday night. You will dance with more than one partner and to both fast and very slow swing music. The judges will choose individuals to dance in the final. In the finals you will be judged as individuals. This is a combined Pure Balboa and Slow Balboa competition. Dancers are expected to mainly stay in close position. You will be judged on technique, flow, musicality, and partnership. Judges will especially look for your ability to make your partner shine while still keeping your integrity as a dancer.
No registration is required, just jump in when it's about to start.
